When It's Okay to be Salty

May 16, 2017

A few weeks ago, I was on a mission to find the perfect Mother’s Day gift.  I wanted to get something creative and functional.  While I was in the grocery store, I came across a Himalayan salt cooking slab.  After reading up on the benefits of cooking on one of these magical slabs, I had to grab one.

I wanted to get a salt slab for myself, but then I remembered; I’m hardly ever home to cook!  (Side note- my diet consists of super quick *mostly healthy meals.  I stick to basics.  I’ll share later).  Instead of a slab, I opted for a Himalayan salt lamp.  Besides being beautiful, the health benefits attributed to these lamps are amazing.

Why You Need at Least 1 in Your Home!

  1. Ionization- The lamps generate negative ions into the atmosphere which are said to neutralize electromagnetic radiation from our daily electronics.  This radiation can cause chronic fatigue and increase stress among other things.

  2. Cleans Air- The salt attracts water from the air and traps allergens and other contaminants.  Clean water in return is released.  This was a huge selling point for me because my allergies have had me all messed up this spring.

  3. Breathe Easy- Cleaner air means improved breathing.  The lamps are great for people with asthma.  There are even Himalayan salt inhalers.

  4. More Energy- Positive ions are thought to deprive your body of energy.  The negative ions from the lamp are thought to reduce the amount of positive ions in the air.

  5. Better Sleep- Another benefit attributed to the positive ions, but this may also be a result of the relaxing effects of the ambient light given off by the lamps.

  6. Improved Mood- Negative ions have been shown to help with depression and other mood disorders.

Each lamp is different and gives off a different amount of ions.  It is suggested to place at least one in the rooms you spend the most time in.  I just started using mine.  I’ll keep you posted on my take on the lamp.  If you’ve used one for an extended amount of time I’d love to hear your thoughts!
